The organisation:

Invenio Systems is a new organisation established to provide innovative solutions to the water industry and its customers. Invenio is the Latin word for 'to find' or 'to discover'; an appropriate name for a company looking for new ways of working based on new information.

Our first product is the StopWatch system, which uses a unique approach to identify and measure potable water flows into customer properties. The analysis uses a number of different approaches to derive flows from the input data and then combines the results. We have other systems at a pilot stage.

Our business plan includes significant expansion over the next few years, so this role could provide opportunities to get in early to an expanding field.

The role purpose:

The role’s purposes could include:

  • To improve the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained from the StopWatch system
  • To run the systems to produce accurate and reliable flows from the raw sensor data
  • To improve useability of the analysis systems

The balance of activity between these three purposes will depend, to some extent, on the aptitudes of the candidate and we may select a candidate for only one or two of these purposes.

The role might interest recent graduates or those with a relevant post-graduate qualification.

Key Duties and accountabilities:

The analyst will operate the existing systems and use them to derive flows from the StopWatch data. This work includes running R scripts, some analysis using MS-Excel, and using our own “DataWatch” webserver-based database system.

The analyst may also work to improve the StopWatch systems by comparing calculated flows to the flows recorded by flow meters on the same sites. There are a number of different approaches in use. The analyst is expected to refine these to make them more accurate and reliable under the guidance of the technical director. However there are a number of different approaches that could be used including wavelet deconvolution, cepstrum methods, machine learning approaches or regression analysis. If the analyst has the skills and aptitude then they could work with other analysts and the Technical Director to develop one or more of these alternative approaches.

The analyst may also work to improve the operation of the existing systems. This could be carried out by working with our IT team and/or by developing code that could be integrated into the system. Parts of the system are currently written in PHP, VBA, R and matlab script. It would be useful, but not vital for the analyst to have some programming skills.

The analyst will work under the direction of the Technical Director or Technical Manager.

  • Uphold Invenio Systems Ltd equal opportunities policies and practices.

Qualifications, Experience and Aptitudes Needed:
